I present the following workshops at park districts, libraries, writing centers 
and writers groups throughout the Chicago area.

Check with your park district or library.  If I'm not scheduled to present in the near future, 
request that they offer my workshops and direct them to my website.

  • The fee I charge venues is $100 for each two-hour workshop.   
  • Venues generally charge participants $20 to $45 per person.   
  • Participants must bring their own pen and paper.
  • Venues must have a whiteboard, chalkboard, or an LCD projector I can connect to laptop.

    How to Utilize Sound, Rhythm and Rhyme in Poetry

    Do you like to write poetry?  Do you know how to utilize sound, rhythm and rhyme in your poetry?  Even if you write mostly free verse, understanding these essential elements can greatly improve the quality of your poems.  Participants will learn how to utilize sound, rhythm and rhyme and how they work together to build a poem. 

    How to Get Your Poetry Published

    Do you have a journal or drawer full of poetry and would like to try and get them published?  Participants will learn what makes poetry publishable, what poetry editors consider when reviewing submissions, how to improve the quality of your poetry, how to categorize your poetry to streamline the submission process, how to find the best markets for your poetry, how to write a professional query letter, how to prepare your submission package, how to track your poetry submissions, and how to prepare a manuscript for a poetry book. 

    How to Write a Memoir

    Is there a chapter of your life that you believe will make a compelling memoir, but you do not know where or how to start?  Participants will learn about the memoir form, engage in exercises to help find stories worth publishing, practice techniques for translating memories into compelling prose and compile a list of ideas to serve as a springboard for memoirs. 

    How to Get Your Book Published

    Have you recently started or finished writing a book?  Do you know how to prepare your manuscript and write an effective query letter to potential agents and publishers?  Do you know how to find a good literary agent?  Do you know how to find the appropriate publisher for your book?  Do you know what will be expected of you as an author during the production phase and once the book has been released?  What should an author know about book marketing and promotion?  Do you know how to conduct yourself as a business professional and set up essential record keeping files for income tax reporting purposes?  Participants will learn important tips critical to their success as a published author.
